British Foreign Office: permission to strike Russia with Western weapons could be given before the start of winter

David Lammy, British Foreign Secretary, suggests that a decision to lift restrictions for Ukraine on the use of Western long-range weapons against military targets on Russian territory could be made before the start of winter.

He told Voice of America journalists about this in response to a corresponding question, writes “European truth”. David Lammy emphasized that over the coming weeks there will be a “very strong position” to provide Ukraine with everything it needs:

“We are meeting here at the UN General Assembly. I know that President Zelensky is meeting with President Biden in Washington. There is also a G20 meeting ahead. I expect that over the coming days and weeks we will be in a very strong position to provide Ukraine with everything necessary as we head into that difficult winter of 2025.”

The head of the British Foreign Ministry noted that the country's intelligence data shows that the situation for the head of the Kremlin next year will be more difficult:

“Its economy is in bad shape. It will be very difficult for it to cope with the amount of losses and casualties it has suffered.”

He also noted the successes of Ukraine, including in the Black Sea and the Kursk region of Russia. A British diplomat stated:

“Ukraine has already managed to recapture half of the occupied lands. It has already managed to drive the Russian Federation out of the Black Sea. It went on the offensive in the Kursk region and, I hope, will hold these positions. In fact, now is the moment, because we are moving from autumn to winter, when the West must demonstrate its courage and absolute loyalty.”

The UK and the US may secretly grant Ukraine permission to strike Russian territory with long-range Storm Shadow missiles, The Times newspaper reported on September 20, citing Western diplomats. According to the publication, London and Washington are ready to “sign this decision,” but may refrain from making a public announcement until “the first launch” of cruise missiles deep into Russian territory.

As The Times emphasizes, there is a fear that preliminary publicity of the decision to lift restrictions on long-range strikes on the Russian Federation will “warn” Moscow, while it is important to maintain the “element of surprise.”
