Kirill Budanov, head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine, calls Telegram a threat to national security.
He said this in interview “Radio Charter”:
“Telegram is harmful. I have never been afraid to say this. It is a threat to our national security. I say this absolutely directly, and we have even documented this. Telegram is the main source of information in society, according to our research. It has overtaken absolutely everything. I am not in favor of simply taking and closing it. This is quite difficult to do, but possible. I advocate for “physicalizing” all Telegram channels. If you want to broadcast some news, please register so that everyone understands that this is the channel of a citizen of the Russian Federation or a citizen of Ukraine. And then he has responsibility.”
Budanov admitted that blocking Telegram, as was done in Ukraine with Odnoklassniki and VKontakte, is technically more difficult, but possible. The head of Ukrainian intelligence called Twitter harmless.
It is worth recalling that the US Central Intelligence Agency prohibits its analysts from using the Telegram messenger from work computers.
