Unprecedented record numbers of tourists entering our country were recorded at the Promahonas customs office, on the border with Bulgaria.
According to ERT Serres, in August 2024, 1,960,000 tourists crossed the Promahona customs (1,007,000 entered the country and 953,000 left). In total, during the three summer months (June, July, August) of 2024, 5,210,000 tourist visitors passed through the Promahonas customs, a record number showing that the Promahonas customs is the main and largest land entry gate to the country.
Promahonas is also expected to see heavy traffic in September. On the first day of the month alone, 96,000 tourists-visitors passed through customs (59,000 entered the country). Travelers are looking to take advantage of the cheapest holiday packages, as September is the month of two public holidays in Bulgaria, giving people time to relax.
The average waiting time for visitors crossing the Promahona border is between 30 and 40 minutes, due to the necessary passport control process by the authorities of the two countries (Greece and Bulgaria).
