Holidays: Prices in Greece rise by 7.7%


For much of the world community, holidays remain something of a luxury, both in Greece and in EUas evidenced by the latest Eurostat data for July.

The average price of a holiday to Greece rose 7.7% in July from a year earlier, compared with a 6.6% increase in the European Union. In the EU, prices for domestic holidays rose 11.1%, while prices for international holidays rose 5.7%.

EU holiday prices are rising since August 2021. The annual growth rate exceeded 10% in most months of 2022 and 2023. In particular, there was a significant increase in prices for domestic vouchers in 2023. At the same time, the annual growth rate exceeded 20% for 7 months of the same year.

In July 2024, most EU countries reported positive annual inflation for holiday packages sold in their countries. The largest increases in holiday package prices were recorded in France (22.2% compared to July 2023), Italy (19.5%) and Cyprus (16.7%).

In contrast, three EU countries reported negative inflation in package holiday sales: Malta (-2.9%), Finland (-2.7%) and Denmark (-0.2%).

In January-June 2024 Travel revenues have increasedwhich indicates good image of Greek tourism.

In particular, during this period, according to the Institute of the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises (INSETE), travel revenues recorded a 12.2% increase compared to the corresponding period of 2023 and amounted to 6.921 million euros.
