Greece: Government's image rapidly deteriorates after European elections

The deterioration in performance is of great concern “New Democracy”as evidenced by the results of measurements obtained in Megaro Maximwhich give a picture of a further decline compared to what was recorded at European elections.

Instead of improving, having drawn the right conclusions and received “messages” from society following the European elections, the government presents a picture of disintegration and inability to cope with the problems of everyday life. The worsening of this picture is reflected in the fact that there is currently no opposition, which began after the last double national elections. And “New Democracy” and the government became complacent about this fact, but someday this will change.

IN SYRIZA the situation under Kasselakis' chairmanship seems much more complicated than in PASOK. However, in PASOK everything will become clear after the upcoming intra-party elections in October. Judging by how the situation is developing, the most likely candidate to win the elections is the current Athens Mayor Harris Doukas, a man who already enjoys a good level of trust among the population.

What will stop the deputies from then? SYRIZAdissatisfied with the presidency of S. Kasselakis, to unite with the New Left MPs and all together to form a united front with the PASOK parliamentary group and support its new president? Let us not forget that such an “experiment” has essentially already been carried out in favor of Harisa Doukas, when he was elected mayor of Athens. In the second round of municipal elections, he received an overwhelming majority of votes SYRIZA and PASOK.

The problem is not really with the opposition parties, because no matter how much they fall, they fall, and at some point it will be reversed. The problem is “New Democracy” and, accordingly, in the government itself, since in 12 months it fell from 41% in national elections to 27% in European electionsand in two and a half months it seems to have fallen even further. This was certainly helped by the fiery devastation that engulfed Attica, with one fire in Barnabas ending the next day with a 45-kilometer flame front!

The main thing in all this is that the government is currently showing no signs of recovery. In fact, if the international situation becomes even more difficult with an escalation of the war in Ukraine, which will involve even the West, and an outbreak of conflict in the Middle East, the situation for the government will become extremely difficult, as this will have direct consequences for the already difficult daily life of Greek citizens.

And against this backdrop, the current administration's nightmare is the possibility of D. Trump's re-election as President of the United States. Because everything will change due to the policy pursued by Kyriakos Mitsotakis. And we are talking about not only about Ukrainebut also about the implementation of the “woke” agenda, which the Mitsotakis administration was the first to support by passing a law about LGBT+ marriages and their adoption of children.
