The perpetrator of a bloody knife attack that left three festival goers dead and eight wounded in the German town of Zollinger has handed himself in to police.
Apparently, while the police were searching for the criminal for 24 hours, he hid in a neighboring yard. Emerging from there in the pouring rain, covered in blood, he approached the police and said: “I am the one you are looking for.” “Security sources said his clothes were dirty and bloody,” writes Der Spiegel.

According to Bild, the man is 26-year-old Issa al-H. from Syria, who came to Germany in 2022 and applied for asylum. Meanwhile, the Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the knife attack. In a statement, ISIS said:
“The perpetrator of the attack on a group of Christians in the German city of Solingen is a soldier of the Islamic State and carried out the attack as revenge against Muslims in Palestine and around the world.”
Hours before the killer surrendered, police raided a refugee center in Zollinger and arrested a 36-year-old suspect, but the Interior Ministry said he was not the attacker. A 15-year-old boy had previously been arrested, but authorities stressed he was not the main suspect. quotes CNN prosecutor Markus Kaspers:
“At present, he is only suspected of failing to report a crime.”
He added that the suspect allegedly spoke with the attacker “shortly before the crime.” From the moment attacks at the festival on Frohnhof Square and before the suspect was detained, more than a day passed. During this time, law enforcement officials were “hot on the trail.” The German Interior Ministry stated that they had a suspect, for whom the search continued all day.
North Rhine-Westphalia Interior Minister Herbert Reul confirmed the arrest and noted that evidence had also been found regarding the detained man and his possible involvement in the attack in Solingen.
