New ID cards: changes in the registration system for their issuance

Appointments at police stations to obtain new ID cards, tavtotit, are subject to change.

It is expected that the “key” to them will be a personal number, since it will become an element of verification of individuals working with public sector bodies, and will be issued without fail to everyone who has a taxpayer identification number (TIN) or a social security number (AMKA). Before applying for a new identity card, citizens must obtain a personal number through the digital platform myinfo on Gov.gr.

Personal citizen number will be the VAT number plus three additional elements, one letter and two numbers, which the citizen will select himself on the special myinfo platform.

The citizen will initially log in to the myinfo platform to set up your unique personal numberwhich will consist of a letter of the Latin alphabet (i.e. K, M, N, O, etc., but not Ψ, Θ, Ω, etc.), two digits and a registration number (TIN).

In particular, the citizen will select two of three additional alphanumeric elements that will be added to his personal number (a letter and a number), and the myinfo platform will select the third element (a number). The citizen's personal number will now be stored in the new identifiers.

According to the Minister of Digital Management, significant “progress” is expected from the moment the personal number is issued. “Everything will start in parallel with the introduction of the personal number. A little patience,” said Mr. Papastergiou.

If myinfo detects a discrepancy (error) in the way any element of a citizen is written (for example, last name, first name, date of birth, etc.), a warning will appear on the computer screen that you look like this in the registry office, but differently here. In fact, it will urge the citizen to immediately correct his information so that it is the same everywhereOnce and for all, if such a serious question arises, a citizen should visit the registry office where he is registered to make the correction on the spot.

Along with new ID cards The Ministry of Digital Management, in cooperation with the Ministry of Citizen Protection, is creating a new, more secure authentication method, allowing citizens who wish to obtain new secure codes (those who wish will be able to keep the old codes) to log in to Taxinet, Gov.gr and other digital platforms with greater security.
