The arrest of the 40-year-old woman involved in the extortion case took place following coordinated actions by officers from the Anti-Extortion Unit of the Thessaloniki Police Department.
This followed a complaint from a 39-year-old woman, according to which the suspect had been extorting around 80,000 euros from her since the beginning of 2018.
According to the police report, both women had been communicating with a local man after creating a fake social media profile. The accused falsely reported that her husband and brother, upon realizing that the profile was fake, intended to sue the 39-year-old woman if she did not consistently pay various amounts of money. According to the police, the extortionists created a sense of fear in the victim by falsely claiming that “two men were following her,” which resulted in the victim handing over the aforementioned amount.
On the evening of July 30, at a prearranged meeting in the Serres area, the accused was arrested while receiving the agreed sum of 300 euros. She will be brought before the competent prosecutor.
