Dozens of boats carry around 7,000 athletes and artists along a 6-kilometer route along the Seine. The first ship to open the naval parade was the Greek mission. Impressive events and performances.
Departing from the Pont d'Austerlitz, the parade passes Notre Dame Cathedral and approaches the Eiffel Tower, passing under bridges and gates, including the Pont des Arts and the Pont Neuf, as well as past many of the French capital's landmarks.
The nearest metro stations are closed, as are many bridges. No planes are allowed to fly over Paris, except, of course, those participating in the ceremony.
Major international agencies are broadcasting live from the French capital.
