Rescue operations at the Okhmatdet children's hospital destroyed by the explosion continue into the night, the press service of the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs reports. Tuesday, July 9, has been declared a day of mourning.
More than a hundred seriously ill children were transported in a short time. Interior Minister Igor Klimenko noted that the National Police will provide round-the-clock protection for the damaged hospital. The department's press service clarified that the work will continue even at night.

The damaged hospital “Okhmatdet” was visited by representatives of the European Union, the UN, UNICEF, NATO, Greece, Indonesia, Turkey, Armenia, Slovakia, Vietnam, Azerbaijan, Sweden, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Montenegro, Norway, North Macedonia, Canada, Switzerland, Mexico, the Republic of Sudan, Moldova, Spain, Japan, the Czech Republic, Finland, Italy, and France.

The Security Service of Ukraine has classified the Russian Federation's strike on the Okhmatdet hospital as a war crime and opened a criminal case on the matter. According to the SBU, the occupiers used a Kh-101 strategic cruise missile to destroy the medical facility.

Tuesday has been declared a day of mourning in Kyiv for the victims of the Russian airstrike, the UP newspaper reports. Several dozen missiles were fired at the capital and other cities. More than 30 people have been killed in the strikes across the country, at least 27 of them in Kyiv. The number of dead and injured is constantly being updated. At the time of the missile attack, there were more than 600 patients and at least the same number of hospital workers in Okhmatdet.
The Ukrainian Air Force claims to have shot down 30 of the 38 cruise and ballistic missiles. Russian media, commenting on the attack on the hospital, claim that it was a missile from the Ukrainian air defense forces – various Russian publications “definitely identify” it as both a Patriot and a NASAMS. Volodymyr Zelensky rejected such claims:
“You've already seen the reports that it was the Ukrainian air defenses that were to blame, not their carefully timed strike. I am grateful to all the Ukrainians who have started posting videos that show not a part of a particular missile, but a direct missile strike that has injured and killed many people in Ukraine today.”
The UN has strongly condemned the Russian missile attack. Ukrainian authorities have called the strike on the children's hospital a war crime, noting in particular that the massive shelling was sanctioned amid new discussions of possible peace talks.
The same position was taken in EU: The European External Action Service noted that “by attacking children, who are the most vulnerable, Russia has once again demonstrated its cruelty and complete insincerity regarding peace and peace negotiations.”
