According to visual material published from the scene of the fire brigade's operation to extinguish the fire in Glyka Nera, a SAS SARISA SRS-1A model drone was found at the site of the fire, as indicated on its body in white letters.
The basic configuration is expected to include a dual launcher for HYDRA 70 2.75-inch diameter unguided rocketsan obsolete type of munition, as no unguided munitions are currently used on any battlefield other than free-fall grenades or FPV mines.
The question is whether the unknown persons were using this UAV for aerial surveillance and early warning of fires in cooperation with civil defense, or whether they were conducting a test flight, in which case they should have received permission from ΥΠΑIt was reportedly handled by a team of four people, apparently from the company.
When the police from the rapid response team arrived at the scene, they noticed the people trying to leave the area where the drone had crashed. The police stopped them and then, after checking, detained them. They were taken to the Peania police station and the fire department was informed about the detainees. The people in question are the head of a drone company, two employees and its operator, who lost control of the unmanned aircraft, which crashed, causing a fire.
SARISA SRS-1A is a powerful multi-rotor unmanned aerial vehicle with a maximum takeoff weight of about 60 kg. Its payload can reach about 35 kg.
In 2021, the company presented the SARISA SRS-1A unmanned aerial vehicle to the Ministry of National Defense. In particular, the Ministry reported (see HERE) that on July 18, 2023, SAS Technology representatives held a presentation of the SARISA SRS-1A unmanned aerial vehicle to the General Staff of the Ground Forces (GS SF). Operationally, it is a UCAV capable of launching 70-mm guided missiles (Hydra-70) and can be used in various operational scenarios, such as island defense against landings, in cruiser unit operations, as an organic system for naval units, etc.
Overall, it offers an alternative to a commander who may not have other assets at his disposal, such as fighter jets and attack helicopters.
