Photos have been published of supermarkets installing anti-theft measures on coffee packaging. This indicates both the poverty into which Greek society has plunged and the high price of this extremely popular product in the country.

Reviews from commentators:
- peace_☮️@dali280417: Stealing coffee in Mitsotakis Greece is like stealing jewelry in the rest of Europe.
- @mpapatharenos1: Anyone who steals coffee worth up to 7 euros is a criminal.
-
@Apos1982: All supers already have something like this. Masutis (at least near my house) has anti-theft stickers on EVERYTHING (cheese, butter, cold cuts, etc., etc.) in the refrigerator. Cosmetics/deodorants/condoms, etc. are locked in a display case next to the cash registers, and an employee must come.

However, some supermarkets already install similar “anti-theft” systems on almost all food products.
It is expected that the price increase for coffee on supermarket shelves and in public catering outlets will range from 10 to 20%. Examples with takeaway coffee prices:

- Instant coffee (including frappe): from 1.70 euros to 2.0 euros, expected up to 2.5 euros
- Greek: from 1.80 euros, expected up to 2.20 euros
- Fredo espresso: €2 to €2.20, expected €2.40 to €2.60
- Cappuccino Fredo: €2.20 to €2.80, expected €2.60 to €3.00
- Cappuccino (double) from 2.20 to 2.80 euros, expected from 2.60 to 3.00 euros.
