Coca-Cola returned to Russia and registered 8 new trademarks

The Coca-Cola company, which previously left the Russian market, filed applications for re-registration of 8 trademarks with the Federal Service for Intellectual Property of Russia (Rospatent).

According to the Rospatent database, trademarks belong to classes 32 and 33 of the International Classification of Goods and Services, covering soft and alcoholic drinks, sparkling water and others. The company is seeking to register the trademarks Sprite, Powerade, Fanta and others in this category.

The Coca-Cola Company ceased operations in Russia in March 2022, but Coca-Cola soft drinks imported from other countries are still available in stores.

Sanctions against Russia do not achieve their goal, but on the contrary, are only a temporary barrier for multinational companies that still see opportunities in the Russian market. The effectiveness of sanctions appears to be limited as multinational companies find ways to maintain their presence through imports or other methods.

Coca-Cola's insistence on registering its trademarks in Russia suggests that multinational corporations see no reason to abandon the large Russian market.
