However, sometimes pythons underestimate the size of their prey. In 2005, a Burmese python tried to swallow an alligator whole. The reticulated python (Malayopython reticulatus) that Farida fell victim to is the longest snake in the world, measuring over 6.25 meters. The longest reticulated python known to science was found in 1912 and reached 10 meters.

Reticulated pythons live in Southeast Asia. The jungles of Indonesia are home to a large population of reticulated pythons, undisturbed by urban civilization.
