The water in the municipal swimming pool is contaminated with staphylococcus

The latest inspection at the Trikala municipal swimming pool showed that the water was contaminated with staphylococcus!

Journalists from Trikalanews.gr asked Deputy Mayor Michalis Lappas, who told them that Staphylococcus developed in just one week. “We carry out inspections twice a week. The first did not show anything, and the second, carried out on Friday 7/06, revealed that both pools (for adults and children) were infected with staphylococcus”– he said.

According to the person in charge, the disinfection process has already begun. And if the small pool will be “tidyed up” on Monday (after all, every weekend the small pool is emptied, cleaned and refilled), then it is still unknown when the large pool will be put into operation.

“Our main goal is to provide access to the pool without any problems and safe for swimmers,” Mr. Lappas emphasized.

This is, of course, a very serious matter. The municipal swimming pool operates under enormous pressure, welcoming members of sports clubs and citizens of all ages from all over the Trikala prefecture every day, as it is the only one in the region.

At the same time, the sports facility has disadvantages, such as, for example, a chlorinator, in which the critical chlorination process is partially performed “by hand.” Could this contribute to the rapid growth of staphylococcus??

Mr. Lappas does not confirm this, but does not rule it out either. However, the chlorinator, which was discussed several times in the municipal council, has not yet been restored, its cost is approximately 40-50 thousand euros, and the deputy mayor said that the Trikala municipality will deal with this issue in the near future.
