Energy Surveyor Michalis Christodoulides talks about how we can take advantage of passive cooling to keep home or office temperatures cool without using air conditioning.
“We lower the blinds and awnings, close the shutters on the windows to block solar radiation from entering the house“- said the energy inspector. According to his instructions, we must open the windows for an hour and a half at night in order to relieve all the heat load that has accumulated in the room during the day.
Also, according to him, “if possible, it would be good to place heat-reflecting or solar films on the windows, that is, block solar radiation up to 80%.”
The specialist recommended what we should all do in our homes: spray our porches with water in the afternoon or early morning, because this way we help reduce the temperature due to the evaporation of water.
At the same time, the energy expert recommended that everyone planning to install cooling units in your home, be aware when installing them that they should not be placed near the kitchen oven so as not to increase energy consumption.
Regarding the adjustment of the air conditioner, he emphasized that we must follow the rule: the temperature difference between inside and outside the house should not exceed 10 degrees Celsius.
According to him, “for every degree below 26 degrees Celsius, you are charged 8 to 10% of your electricity consumption.” “The best air conditioner to buy is A+++ or A, energy-saving,” noted the energy inspector.
