B. Orban: "NATO is preparing for war with Russia – we will not participate"

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that Europe and NATO are preparing for war with Russiaand is looking for a way to reconsider the country's relationship with the alliance.

According to him, he does not want Hungary to be drawn into a war with Russia.

Hungary does not want to participate in NATO military missions in Ukraine. This is not in the interests of Hungary.” Despite Hungary's NATO membership, Orbán emphasizes that participation in military missions must be considered in light of national interests: “Before the two world wars, the media spent a lot of time preparing for war. I think that what is happening today in Brussels and Washington, but probably more in Brussels than in Washington, is a kind of preparation for possible direct conflict. We can say that Europe is preparing for war, this is happening in the media and in the statements of politicians.”

He said that he does not consider it likely that Russia will attack a NATO country, arguing that all talk about the “Russian threat” is a Western invention that serves as an “excuse” for preparing for war.

“Hungary is opposed to this. A lot of work is going on in the government to determine how we can remain a member of NATO without participating in a war. This is something that Hungarian diplomacy must resolve.”said the Hungarian Prime Minister, noting that when the alliance was created there was no scenario according to which NATO could conduct military operations outside its territory and start a war outside the alliance.
