Greece's finance minister announced several changes regarding taxation on Tuesday. Among other things, the ministry decided to tax tips that customers give to couriers and waiters.
In addition, he reported that the annual entrepreneurial fee for freelancers will be cancelled, and discounts will be provided for tax returns. An amount of €300 per month is tax-free for each employee receiving tips through POS. This amount will also be released from social insurance contributions. Tips exceeding this amountwill be taxed based on income tax levels and no social security contributions will be paid.
The ministry's decision was made after sharp protests from workersin, who usually receive tips, as well as members of the public. Earlier this month, the Supreme Court ruled that Tips for delivery workers are “salary”» and must be subject to appropriate tax, including social security contributions. “Tips” will be considered as additional income and taxed as wages.
Business fee of 500 to 600 euros per year for freelancers will be abolished from 2025. Tax returns will be filed each year from March 15 to July 15. A gradual discount from 4 to 2% is being introduced depending on the time of filing the tax return, and only if the tax is paid to the state in full at once.
