Larisa: 170 years of strict security for the transporter of illegal immigrants

On Monday (14/10), the Larissa court sentenced a foreigner to 170 years in prison for trafficking in illegal immigrants in Volos last December.

The accused was driving a car containing four people and a van carrying more than twenty foreigners was driving directly behind him before both vehicles were stopped near the ΑΓΕΤ cement plant by police and coast guard personnel.

Earlier, authorities discovered the criminal activities as illegal migrants, most of them Afghans, including women and children, landed on the coast of Pelion, having arrived from Turkey and were under discreet surveillance from Argalasti.

According to larissanet.gr, the accused, who, according to his testimony, has been living in Greece for the last 18 years, according to the indictment, was to receive the sum of 300 euros for their transportation to Athens. However, in court yesterday he denied receiving the reward money, saying he received a message on his mobile phone asking him to pick up four people in a car that did not belong to him.

As a result, the court found the accused guilty and sentenced him to 10 years of imprisonment and a fine of 60 thousand euros for each person transported. General punishment for transportation 33 foreigners received 170 years of imprisonment with a term of 20 years.
