The five-star Dolder Grand Hotel is located on a hill in the center of Zurich. From there you have a beautiful view of the entire city. One night in a hotel costs about 1000 euros.
BILD journalist Tobias Render noticed that in the hall next to the reception there was a figure of a sleeping tramp, striking in its verisimilitude. From the outside it is difficult to understand that he is not a living person. This is the work of American sculptor Dwayne Hanson (1925-1996) “Traveler”.
Hotel director Markus Granelli told the Neue Zürcher Zeitung newspaper that with this figure the hotel wants to become “a little more daring”than others. “Selling rooms alone is no longer enough today. We have to entertain people.” – he said. Render does not agree with this and considers it another fad of the rich.
“Why is there a homeless man lying in the lobby of a luxury hotel? Deliberate provocation, a humane gesture or just lewd entertainment for people who have everything but care about money? <..> I think of ancient Rome, where the slave was tasked with reminding the victorious general during his triumph that he, too, was only human. Memento Mori – remember death. It would make a little more sense if this “traveller” had a hat in front of him in the lobby, in which the rich and famous could leave a few francs for the real homeless.” – writes a BILD journalist.
