Hellenic Train controller caught pocketing ticket money

A Hellenic Train controller was embezzling money collected from commuter rail passengers until his actions were caught on camera and the video became public.

We are talking about a ticket inspector who worked on a commuter train running on the Athens-Chalkis route. A Hellenic Train employee approached passengers, mostly migrants, and asked for their tickets. Since they did not have tickets, he had to sell them a ticket and charge the appropriate price for it. However, the controller received the money but did not give them a ticket.

His actions attracted the attention of other passengers because they happened repeatedly, and one of them decided to “catch” him by filming him on his mobile phone camera. The corresponding video document was shown on air on the SKAI TV channel.

In turn, the president of Hellenic Train employees, Nikos Koutsoukis, in an interview with SKAI said: “I investigated this procedure, but did not speak with the controller himself.”. Immediately afterwards he added that “the company will take the necessary actions if theft is noticed, even by an employee”. He added that “It is obvious that such an employee should be fired from the company.” N. Koutsoukis then referred to the serious background of this employee, since there was information that he had already committed similar actions in the past.

At the same time, the workers' president also mentioned the absence of ticket cancellation machines, which means that each ticket inspector will only have to confirm whether the passenger has a ticket.

For its part, Hellenic Train said in an official statement that the employee in question was suspended from work, and according to SKAI, he intended to submit the necessary documents for retirement within a month.
