High levels of arsenic found in water in Halkidiki villages

High levels of arsenic have been found in the local water of two villages in Chalkidiki in northern Greece, with residents of Nea Trilia and Nea Plagia expressing their concern.

Additional cleanup is needed to remove the arsenic, and work is already underway to install it, city officials said. During installation, water will be continuously delivered to the affected areas using specialized tanker trucks to meet their needs, local authorities said in a statement on social media.

The municipality warned local residents about the dangers of using running water. He assured residents that measures were being taken to quickly resolve the problem, but the discovery of contamination caused public concern.

According to Mega TV Live News, the local water company attributed the high arsenic levels to water shortages and high demand due to overtourism during the summer months.
