The Ambassador of Ukraine to the UK and ex-Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny expressed his opinion on the mobilization of Ukrainian youth.
Edition BB.LV writesthat he is against sending Ukrainians aged 18 to 25 to the front. “They need to be protected,” Zaluzhny noted at a meeting with Ukrainian students in London:
“When I was commander-in-chief, I protested against the mobilization of people under 25 years of age, because we need Ukraine both in 20 years and in 30 years. These are completely different people who will save this country.”
The ex-commander-in-chief added, writes the Telegram channel of the Strana.ua publication, that he allows the mobilization of young people in “extreme cases”: when it comes to a situation in which there is a threat to the existence of Ukraine as such.
Previously, our publication talked about changes in age requirements during mobilization in Ukraine. People's deputies of “European Solidarity” Irina Gerashchenko and Alexey Goncharenko reported that The Ministry of Defense could likely issue an order banning the mobilization of “limitedly fit” men under the age of 25 and suspending the conscription of men between 50 and 60 years of age without specific orders from the General Staff. The command of the Ground Forces confirmed that they had resolved “some issues regarding conscription.” However, they did not specify what changes were being discussed and what categories of military personnel or reservists they affected.
