Fire in Piraeus, messages 112

On Monday 7 October, a large fire broke out in an abandoned building in Piraeus, on Kekropos and Kasimatis streets behind the ΗΣΑΠ station.

The fire spread quickly, and from the first moment there was a danger that it could spread to neighboring buildings.

The fire produced thick black smoke, prompting the 112 service to send a message to residents asking them to close their doors and windows.

The atmosphere was so suffocating that the 112 alarm sounded five times.

The fire was brought under control only after 21:00. Due to the fire, traffic was stopped on Kekropos Street, from Gounari Street to Alipedou Street. In addition, traffic on metro line 1 “Piraeus – Kifissia” was temporarily carried out on the Faliro-Kifissia section.

40 firefighters with 9 pieces of equipment, including two special armored personnel carriers, were involved in the fire extinguishing operation.
