Thessaloniki Metro: smart card and e-ticket system

From November 30, residents of Thessaloniki will be able to use the metro by purchasing “smart cards” and “electronic tickets”. This type of service will mark the transition to digital technologies in urban public transport.

ΟΣΕΘ reminds that all necessary measures have been taken for the functioning of payment systems with smart cards and electronic tickets in the metro. In response to recent reports, it is recalled that on June 6, 2019, the tender “Digital transformation, telematics and unified automatic payment collection system ΟΣΕΘ) was announced.”

A corresponding contract was signed with K/X Terna Energy – Indigital – AMCO, the company selected as the contractor. It included implementation of an automated fare payment information system, supply and distribution of 2 million tickets, and 200,000 “smart” unlimited travel cards.

Two million refillable tickets can be used in all machines installed in the metro. In addition, ΟΣΕΘ, as part of an international tender, purchased an additional 960,000 “smart cards”.
