Antonio Guterres, the UN secretary-general, minutes after Iran launched a missile attack on Israel, posted a statement on his X (formerly Twitter) page condemning the “escalation.”
The Israeli Foreign Minister accused him of supporting Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis and Iran.
“Anyone who cannot unequivocally condemn Iran's heinous attack on Israel, as almost every country in the world has done, does not deserve to set foot on Israeli soil. This is the Secretary General who has yet to condemn the massacre and sexual atrocities committed by Hamas killers on October 7 , and did not lead any effort to have them declared a terrorist organization.” – said Israel Katz.
After yesterday's missile attack on Israel, Guterres called for a stop to the escalation in the region. “I condemn the expansion of the Middle East conflict with escalation after escalation. This must stop. We absolutely need a ceasefire,” the UN Secretary General wrote in X.
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz declared Guterres persona non grata and imposed a ban on his entry into the country.
