Forty lumberjacks, “passionate” about chainsaws, took part in an original championship in Halkidiki. In the mountainous area of Holomont, they held a competition in chainsaw mastery.
The “virtuosos”, whose main characteristics were skill, speed and artistic vision, divided into pairs, took part in the 5th logging championship, held in the municipality of Taxiarchi, to identify the best representatives of the profession. Characteristically, this year, for the first time in the history of the championship, there was also a female employee of the Polygyros fire service.
The lumberjacks competed for two hours in four events.: in the first one, it was necessary to make a fairly thin cut from a fixed tree trunk, in the second one, to cut a log in record time, in the third one, to create a cube, and in the fourth one, to cut a round trunk so that the chainsaw blade did not touch the ground.
This one is original logging championship started with a demonstration of chainsaw wood carving by Angelos Patsiatzis. The master of his craft gave a live demonstration of chainsaw use and literally mesmerized the audience with his art. The social event continued with cooking and tasting of traditional dishes.
The aim of the championship, which is held under the auspices of the Municipality of Polygyros, the Forestry Authority and the Fire Service, is to “fill” the spectators with impressions, as well as to highlight the beauty of the Holomontas mountain range.
