The media has learned some details about the crash of the F-16 in Ukraine and the death of the Ukrainian pilot Alexei Mes.
Breaking Defense, citing sources, writesthat the plane crash could have occurred as a result of fragments from a downed Russian missile hitting the plane. The publication notes that one version is that the F-16 accidentally flew through a cloud of debris:
“These fragments of the destroyed missile could have caused damage to the engine and other parts… of the F-16 and/or killed the pilot before he could eject.”
Breaking Defense points out that this version is the most likely, given previous precedents. According to the publication's source, Ukraine has already lost four fighters for the same reason – two MiG-29s and two Su.
