Prescribed medications will now be confirmed on your mobile phone


The new measure, which aims to prevent the phenomenon of illegal prescriptions, was announced by Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis after 16 people were arrested for fraud at the expense of EOPYY. The Minister announced that electronic prescriptions will be carried out via a confirmation message on mobile phones.

It is noted that for EOPYY scam with illegal prescriptions Sixteen people, doctors, pharmacy owners and employees, were arrested and charged with eight criminal offences and two misdemeanours, and their assets were frozen.

The Health Minister said: “Despite the electronic prescription, it is technically possible, having AMKA a person who cannot see it and tell you, write virtual prescriptions.”

As he explained, A new security system is planned, which concerns the OTP (επιβεβαίωση) confirmation message that will be sent to the mobile phone of the person for whom the AMKA prescription is issued. Banks have a similar system. “We will check them all,” the health minister emphasized.

As Athens News previously wrote, as a result fraud, a group of criminals caused damage to EOPYY in the amount of 3.5 million euros. The video shows how drugs prescribed for third parties are delivered to the pharmacy.
