The victims of a teenager's attack with a hammer at a school in the Russian city of Chelyabinsk have been hospitalized. The attacker is 13 years old and had a knife and an air pistol with him.
The Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region reports on the incident:
“Emergency at School No. 68 in Chelyabinsk. A schoolboy attacked other students and teachers. There are victims. They were hospitalized, all necessary medical care is being provided. I took the situation under personal control. Law enforcement agencies, the mayor, and the children's rights ombudsman are working on the scene. An investigation is underway. The big question is how the student brought a hammer into the school. Why the security did not react. I gave instructions to law enforcement agencies, the Ministry of Education, the city administration, and the children's rights ombudsman to thoroughly investigate the situation. I also instructed them to conduct inspections in all educational institutions.”
Astra Edition tellsthat at the time of the attack, students barricaded themselves in their classrooms. According to eyewitnesses, someone first turned on loud music, and then cries for help were heard.
According to the local ombudsman, four people were injured, one of the girls is in serious condition. 13-year-old Roman, who came to his school with a hammer and attacked students, was detained. His motive is unknown.
