School buses in Greece: over 200 fines issued in one day

More than two hundred fines were issued as a result of inspections of school buses on Wednesday, September 11, the first day of the start of the school year in Greece.

EL.AS. checked 1,621 school buses and found 214 violations for which fines were imposed, writes CNN Greece:

  • 57 for speeding,
  • 76 for a tachograph,
  • 24 for failure to comply with working hours,
  • 11 for failure to use seat belts,
  • 9 for lack of a fire extinguisher,
  • 4 for lack of a first aid kit,
  • 3 for lack of a certificate of professional competence,
  • 3 for lack of insurance policy,
  • 2 for lack of a driver's license,
  • 1 for lack of a technical inspection certificate,
  • 1 for tire wear,
  • 23 for other violations.

To mark the start of the new school year, police officers throughout Greece distributed leaflets with road safety tips and traffic education to parents and students who arrived at various schools across the country for the blessing ceremony.

This is an initiative of the Hellenic Police Headquarters. Its aim is to inform and raise awareness among parents and students about road safety issues, especially during their journeys to and from schools.
