The Greek government has planned to renovate the school buildings by early 2025, with €250 million allocated from the Public Investment Programme for this purpose.
The issue was discussed at an inter-ministerial meeting chaired by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, tells CNN Greece. The government is focusing on the reconstruction of school buildings. The work, as decided yesterday, Monday, September 9, will begin early next year.
At a meeting dedicated to the implementation of the school premises renovation program Marietta Yannakou, the basic needs of schools were examined and a decision was made to prepare, within a month, in cooperation with the local government, an analytical database necessary for launching projects.
Particular attention will be paid to the modernization of toilets and courts, as well as plastering and painting of all premises. 250 million are allocated for the work, the possibility of increasing the budget through donations was discussed.
The main implementing body of the programme will be the joint-stock company “Construction Infrastructure” (“Κτιριακές Υποδομές”), which has accumulated considerable experience in eliminating the damage caused to schools in Thessaly by the “Daniel” storm.
The inter-ministerial meeting was attended by Interior Minister Thodoris Livanios, Minister of Education, Religion and Sports Kyriakos Pierrakakis, Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Staikouras, Minister of State Akis Skertsos, Deputy Finance Minister Nikos Papathanasis, Deputy Prime Minister and Government Spokesman Pavlos Marinakis and Deputy Prime Minister Giorgos Mylonakis.
