Athens International Airport Launches Off-Airport Check-In for Cruise Passengers

Athens International Airport (AIA) is launching a new service – off-airport check-in for cruise passengers, which will begin this coming Saturday, September 7, 2024.

The service aims to improve and simplify travel for cruise passengers arriving or departing from Athens. The new service connects AIA with the Piraeus Cruise Terminal in cooperation with ground service providers Skyserv and Swissport Greece, and with the support of the Port of Piraeus.

The initiative is expected to speed up and simplify the airport check-in process, improving the cruise passengers’ experience, allowing them to reach their next destination without stress and better plan their time in Athens. On departure days, passengers will have the opportunity to take short excursions in Attica or its surroundings, including a visit to the center of Athens.

Under the “off-airport check-in” procedure, cruise passengers arriving in Athens will board a shuttle bus and be taken directly to their cruise ship. Skyserv and Swissport Greece will handle their luggage themselves, using trucks that will drive up to the apron adjacent to the aircraft.

Similarly, when departing from Greece, cruise passengers will receive boarding passes for their flight upon disembarking the ship. Identified luggage will be transported from Piraeus by truck directly to the airport apron, where it will undergo the necessary X-ray security check before being loaded onto the aircraft.
