Schools: What awaits smart watches after the ban on mobile communications

Besides smartphones, In classes, students must carefully hide their smart watchif they don't want to have problems.

According to the official manual Ministry of Education, demonstrative possession and use of mobile phones is prohibited throughout the educational process, and failure to comply with this requirement entails a one-day suspension from classes.

If a student takes a video/photo of a teacher or classmate without their consent or approval, the punishment will be three-day suspension from classeswhile if the student agrees, he/she will be suspended from school for a period of 1 to 3 days. If the photo/video recording affects the personal data of third parties, the school association is obliged to apply a pedagogical measure in the form of expulsion from school*.

In this regard, parents and students are rightly asking whether the ban on mobile phones affects the use of smart watches.

Greece: No more mobile phones in schools

In fact, the answer to this question is given by the existing circular, according to which, in addition to mobile phones, in school premises, It is strictly forbidden to have any electronic devices or games with video and sound processing systems. Since the smart watch is synchronized with the student's mobile phone, he can view messages and calls at any time, even if the smart watch is in his bag. Therefore, wearing it during class refutes the invisible use of a mobile phone, therefore, the rule is violated, and the teacher should punish.

*How can a student be expelled from school if school education is compulsory under Greek law? And if this cannot be done, then this law has no means of implementing punishments for violations and is essentially legally worthless (as are many other similar laws in the country).
