Poll: 70% of Ukrainians blame all Russians for the war against Ukraine

The overwhelming majority of Ukrainians, more than 70%, consider all Russians responsible for the aggression against Ukraine, and 64.5% agree that the Russian population is pushing their country's leadership to continue the war.

This is evidenced by the data of the latest national survey, conducted The Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation, together with the sociological service of the Razumkov Center, from August 8 to 15, 2024:

“All Russians are responsible for aggression against Ukraine – this opinion is shared by 76% of Ukrainians, while 20% of respondents disagree with it. There is certainty in society on this issue, since only 4% do not have a clear position on this topic. Moreover, regardless of age, respondents mostly fully agree with the collective responsibility of Russians.”

The assertion that the population of the Russian Federation is pushing the country's leadership to continue the war against Ukraine, sociologists note, concerns both the youngest generation of Ukrainians (66% among young people aged 18-29) and the older generation (60% among people over 60).

The face-to-face survey was conducted in the following regions: Vinnytsia, Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr, Zakarpattia, Zaporizhia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kiev, Kirovograd, Lviv, Nikolaev, Odessa, Poltava, Rivne, Sumy, Ternopil, Kharkiv, Kherson, Khmelnytsky, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Chernivtsi and the city of Kyiv (in Zaporizhia, Nikolaev, Kharkiv and Kherson regions – only in those territories that are controlled by the government of Ukraine and where military action is not taking place).

Sociologists surveyed 2,017 respondents aged 18 and over. The theoretical sampling error does not exceed 2.3%.

Another survey during the same period showed that More than 60% of Ukrainians believe that international security guarantees will be able to restrain Russia from new aggression in the future:

“Security guarantees from other countries will be able to protect Ukraine from possible Russian aggression in the future – 62% of Ukrainians are convinced of this.”

In addition, 54% of Ukrainians believe that in the event of an even longer war with Russia, Ukraine will be able to survive, 28% disagree, and another 18% do not have a clear answer to this question. 62% of Ukrainians do not trust China as a mediator during possible negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, only 22% trust it.
