Tax Evasion: No More Tricks in Taverns and Restaurants

Targeted audits by the Independent Tax Authority continue based on cross-references and data obtained from myDATA and processed by a special algorithm.

Based on this, auditors compare this year's turnover with the tax behavior of previous years and get… a “catch”. The same thing happened to a well-known fish restaurant in Vouliagmeni, which was asked to provide evidence of previous years of operation. The investigation revealed that checks or invoices for the amount of 200,000 euros plus VAT of 48,000 euros were not issued, but were only available for a certain period. The company was fined 24,000 euros as required, and a tax audit was launched for all years from 2018 to the present day.

Data that AADE receives from food delivery platforms and compares with myDATA showed that the steakhouse in Ampelokipoi failed to issue 26,000 receipts amounting to €143,000 plus VAT of €34,000. The company was fined €17,000, after which a crackdown began detailed tax audit.

An Italian restaurant in Paleo Faliro, at the end of each day, issued final receipts, canceling orders that had already been completed. It was established that from 2018 to 2022, it failed to declare 311,000 euros plus VAT of 57,000 euros. The catering establishment was fined 28,500 euros, with a subsequent audit of its work for previous years.
