Attica Fire: Shocking Helicopter Video Shows Vast Burnt Areas

The video, which shows thousands of burnt areas in northeastern Attica, was filmed from a helicopter on the morning of Tuesday, August 13.

The footage shows vast charred areas in northeastern Attica where the tsunami struck. fire which began on Sunday, August 11.

A video was previously published showing the destruction after a fire that started in Varnava. The video was published on the Facebook page “Forecast Weather Greece“.

Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Minister Vassilis Kikilias posted a video from a drone that spotted the fire in Varnava on his personal account on the X platform. The drone’s camera, located in the Parnitha area, recorded the moment the fire started in Varnava, which then quickly spread throughout northeastern Attica.

According to authorities, the first helicopter arrived four minutes after the drone spotted the fire, and the first layer of water was dropped a minute later. The first ground forces arrived seven minutes later.

Catastrophic Attica Fire Filmed by Satellite “Copernicus”. The European agency Copernicus has released new data on the Attica fire. The service's mapping team has concluded that the fire front extends 23 km. According to the map below, there are 168 active fire fronts that firefighters have been called to fight. At the same time, again according to the map, the firestorm has burned 8,500 acres.

A Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellite image released Tuesday, acquired at 12:05 on August 12, shows a fire a few kilometers from the center of Athens. The image combines natural color and short-wave infrared to highlight the fire fronts (red tones) and charred areas (dark brown). Driven by strong winds, the fire created a smoke cloud more than 300 km long to the southwest and reached Sparta.
