Israel says top Hezbollah military commander Fuad Shukr, responsible for a rocket attack on a soccer field in the Golan Heights that killed 12 children and teenagers, has been killed.
By message Euronews, three people were killed and more than 70 injured in an Israeli strike in a densely populated area of Beirut. The deceased, Shukr, was also wanted by the US for his role in the bombing of the US Marine barracks in Beirut in 1983. Daniel Hagari, an IDF spokesman, said:
“Hezbollah's continued aggression and brutal attacks are dragging the people of Lebanon and the entire Middle East into a wider escalation. While we prefer to resolve military actions without a wider war, the IDF is fully prepared for any scenario.”
The Lebanese government condemned the Israeli strike, and Hezbollah said it had not yet found Shukr's body. He was the right-hand man of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, advising him in planning and directing attacks and operations.
