Tax filing deadline extended

The AADE Administration today announced an extension of the tax filing deadline: until August 2 for individuals and until August 9 for legal entities.

Following consultation with the AADE administration regarding the progress of filing income tax returns, the Ministry of National Economy and Finance announces the following:

Since the start of the filing process on April 25, 2024, up to today, 6,068,600 declarations have been filed by individuals. Accordingly, since May 1, when the process of filing declarations by legal entities began, 252,542 tax declarations have been filed up to this hour. This number constitutes 93.3% of all tax returns of individuals and 81.8% of all tax returns of legal entities.

Taking into account, on the one hand, the fact that the vast majority of declarations have already been filed, and on the other hand, that in the last few days the declaration filing system has experienced certain technical problems related to the mass filing of declarations by accounting applications, the deadline for filing income tax declarations has been postponed as follows:

  • August 2 for declarations of individuals,
  • August 9 for declarations of legal entities. The postponement of the deadline is relatively longer – for the additional reason that the level of filing declarations is not as high as for individuals.

Accordingly, the deadline for paying the first tax installment is postponed to 2/8 for individuals and 9/8 for legal entities. However, the opportunity for a one-time tax payment with a 3% discount for individuals remains until July 31.

Based on the rate of filing to date, the additional time provided is sufficient to ensure that the remaining returns are filed smoothly and the remaining tax obligations are met.

Hatzidakis said that 92% of declarations were filed as of yesterday evening, and the problem that arose in the application today has been resolved, and Γ.Γ.Π.Σ.Ψ.Δ. is in a state of combat readiness.

For the first time this year, a few hours before the deadline for filing tax returns for 2024, the Ministry of Economy and Finance left open the possibility of an extension.

As the responsible minister, Kostis Hatzidakis, noted in parliament during the discussion of the bill,Ratification of the Merger and Investment Agreement dated 18.7.2024 between the Hellenic Financial Stability Fund and the limited liability company named „THRIVEST HOLDING LTD“», the question of filing declarations “will end smoothly, just like last year”.
