Details of Farion's murder – the murder weapon was a converted pistol (briefing video). Supplemented

The investigation into the murder of former MP and linguist Irina Farion has established that the woman was shot at from a distance of approximately 1.5-2 m using a converted pistol; a sports cartridge case was found at the scene. Photos of other politicians were found on the phone.

At a joint briefing of law enforcement agencies in Lviv, tells The publication “UP” announced some of the investigation's findings:

“According to the investigation, the murder was committed with a converted pistol. After we opened his phone, we saw that the requests were for converted weapons. We still can't establish by the cartridges – where he was looking, where he got it, but there is such a connection – the 18-year-old guy was interested in the corresponding weapon, looking, in particular, for a starting pistol. As well as a Panama hat.”

According to Interior Minister Igor Klimenko, the police went to the crime scene immediately after receiving information about the shooting, and the minister was there that night. He says:

“We conducted several investigative experiments on this crime – who committed it, how they committed it. We were at the crime scene, we saw where the body was, where the criminal was. Over the course of this week, we established everything about the life of this suspect. You know his first and last name, that he was detained. Colossal work was done by law enforcement agencies. A bullet was found. A 9 by 18 bullet. A sports cartridge case. It is currently undergoing examination. Such cartridges were purchased in 2017-18 in the amount of 1 million pieces. A specific bullet, not a combat one. We must establish where it was purchased. Perhaps on the black market. Perhaps it was purchased earlier.”

The gun has not yet been found. Law enforcement officers have released a video and photo of the suspect – his travel routes, information about the places where he stopped in Lviv, and data from his mobile phone. According to Klimenko, a photo of a witness helped in the search – she took a photo of a suspicious guy in glasses near the 6th entrance of the house where Farion lived.

At the briefing, they added that they interrogated 900 witnesses, ordered 22 forensic examinations, worked with more than 80 people with similar appearances, analyzed video from 170 surveillance cameras: “It was established that it was this person who committed the crime.”

Law enforcement officers tracked down that the guy had changed three places of residence in Lviv – this is evidenced by CCTV footage, documents from realtors, rent receipts and data from the detainee's phone. They recorded that the suspect went to Nova Poshta to pick up a box – he sent himself things from Dnipro.

The SBU reported that the murder took place behind the “white silicate house.” Cameras recorded the guy approaching the crime scene a few seconds before the murder. At that moment, Farion was waiting for a taxi, was relaxed, and did not feel threatened. The criminal approached her at about 1.5-2 m.

The investigation established that he fled the scene, and 2 days later, surveillance cameras recorded him at the train station – he was leaving for Dnepr. Below is a video from the train station in Dnepr.

He was detained in Dnepr, where he lived with his mother. His phone contained screenshots, photos of Farion, KGB instructions, and his web browsing history contained searches for photos and information about other politicians. Law enforcement officials assume that the guy may have been preparing his next operation. They also found something like a “farewell letter” in the phone in case something went wrong. It was a prepared version, the guy did not send it.

The prosecutor's office is preparing a petition to select a preventive measure for the suspect in the form of detention without the possibility of posting bail.

When asked why he killed her, she replies: “Time will tell.” “You have no right to drink water. You tore out the heart of an entire nation. You have no heart, no soul. Do you understand what you've done?” Sofia Semchishin says. The guy was mostly silent in response, smirking and rolling his eyes, and at some point showed her language. Earlier she statedthat he would “do everything” to ensure that he “dies in prison.” The court has now announced a recess until 4 p.m. to replace the lawyer.
