Fire in the gallery of the central theater of Athens

Firefighters in Athens are faced with an extremely difficult situation due to a fire that broke out in the gallery of the Broadway Theatre at the intersection of Agios Meletios and Patision streets.

Despite all efforts, the aftermath of the fire remains a concern, with conditions in the area particularly dangerous for residents and businesses. The fire, which started around midnight, was brought under control but not completely extinguished. In some parts of the building, especially in the basements, temperatures remain high and there is an obvious risk. Firefighters estimate that it will take several more hours to extinguish the fire, which further complicates the situation. It is even noteworthy that in such a densely populated area, where life is usually in full swing, the reports do not confirm no casualties or serious injuries.

The fire department is currently concentrating its efforts in the basement of the theatre. Special pipes are installed to remove smoke from the room, which makes the extinguishing process more efficient. Firefighters work in extremely unfavorable conditions, wearing special masks and personal protective equipment. Their work is extremely difficult, as high temperatures force them to stay in the basement for only a limited time.

In addition, the atmosphere in the area is suffocating due to thick smoke, and the ground temperature has exceeded the norm, which further aggravates the situation. Neighboring businesses have suffered serious material damage, and residents, caught off guard, ran out onto the balconies, since they had no access to the exits of the multi-story buildings.

As it became known, the fire broke out in the canteen located in the basement of the building at 00:00. To extinguish the fire, 22 firefighters with 6 cars and a special armored personnel carrier were required to immediately intervene. In addition, the fire service gave priority to the safety of citizens, so the area was cordoned off and constant checks were carried out for new sources of fire.
