A video has been released showing the brutal beating of a 49-year-old Greek-Canadian financier of Cretan origin by a group of five Cretans in a bar in Heraklion.
The victim underwent a six-hour operation and needed 60 stitches, both external and internal, to his head. The cause of all this was an attack by a group of locals in a cafe-bar after one of them burned his hand with a cigarette.
The remark apparently offended the Cretans, who reacted violently and brutally beat the financier in front of her partner and children. The 49-year-old tourist's partner's second son also suffered minor injuries.
Following the attack, the Canadian tourist was immediately taken to Venizelio Hospital with severe head injuries, where he underwent lengthy surgery to repair the damage.
It is noted that in the previous days it became known that two of the criminals had been identified. In particular, they are a 31-year-old resident of the village of Mylopotamos and a 32-year-old resident of one of the areas of the municipality of Malevizi, while two more are reportedly wanted.
According to the information, the 49-year-old man suffered serious head injuries and multiple injuries to his jaw. Surgery and neurosurgery were deemed necessary to restore his health.
What happened
On July 15, a 49-year-old Greek-Canadian from Anogia, his 41-year-old Icelandic wife, their two sons, aged 21 and 18, and their 14-year-old daughter were attacked and brutally beaten by a group of locals.
The victims complained that they were suddenly and without warning attacked by a group of young men from the Mylopotamos area, according to local media cretalive.gr, As the family was leaving the bar, one of the locals supposedly “accidentally” pressed the cigarette to his father's back. The father turned to the young man with the cigarette and advised him to watch his movements. “in good taste”as family members noted.
“It looks like that was the 'spark'”which caused the hooligans to act, and they began to violently beat with their fists and feet not only the father and son, but also the woman and the girl who tried to stop them”– reports cretalive.gr.
The man and one of his two sons were injured and fell to the ground bleeding.
Ambulances took them to a local hospital, and the attackers fled the scene as soon as they saw the blood-soaked victims on the sidewalk.
