Defense Express: Athens has refused free Bradleys from the US

Greek experts have assessed the state of American equipment – free Bradleys and new US ships – as unsatisfactory. Greece is disappointed.

Some equipment even had to be abandoned, writes Defense Express, because The condition of the American Bradley infantry fighting vehicles and the newest Freedom-class Littoral Combat Ships was found to be dire.

In accordance with Excess Defense Articles program Greece was supposed to receive American weapons as aid. The program involves the transfer of excess property, weapons and military equipment of the US armed forces to other countries, as an alternative to disposal, free of charge. The recipient bears only the costs of repair and logistics.

However, in this case Greece has rejected some proposals. She is in despair over the state of the equipment she was supposed to receive – it would cost too much to bring it into combat condition. Defense Express writes:

“It also turned out that the actual condition of 164 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles from the reserve equipment, which was located at two storage bases and was examined by Greek specialists, is unsatisfactory, and the costs of bringing them up to combat condition cannot be considered cost-effective.”

The material notes that The possibility of receiving two military transport aircraft C-130 Hercules remains in question – their condition and restoration costs have not yet been assessed. But If Athens refuses them too, then they will only be able to take a certain number of trucks and enginesThe publication summarizes:

“On the part of Defense Express, we can only note that this story, of course, has two sides. On the one hand, it is quite possible that the real state of those “thousands of armored vehicles” that are parked in the American deserts is precisely such that it calls into question the expediency of their restoration. On the other hand, it is possible that Greece may still perceive the situation on the arms market in terms of a weapons deficit and order new KF-41 Lynx IFVs with a delivery date in years – an accessible scenario.”

As before wrote UNIAN publication, Russian armored vehicles are losing en masse on the battlefield to American Bradley infantry fighting vehicles. According to Forbes, one of the reasons is that numerous losses of armored vehicles are forcing the Russians to use older and less protected models. The American colonel also pointed out Features of the use of Bradley IFV in UkraineMark Kanchian said the Ukrainian side is using the Bradley as a tank, not an armored vehicle or transport vehicle, and that is not what the U.S. Army would do.
