US aid to Georgia suspended

Due to the law on “foreign agents”, Georgia no longer receives US aid, which has been suspended in full.

The US has frozen aid to Georgia following the indefinite postponement of the Noble Partner 2024 military exercises.. This was stated by Uzra Zeya, US Deputy Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights, following a visit to the republic on July 12. The reason was Adoption in Georgia, a law similar to the Russian one “on foreign agents”, Zeya said, without specifying the nature of the assistance:

“As a result of this law, the US has frozen aid to Georgia, and integration into the European Union is also not happening. Concerns about Georgia's anti-democratic trajectory are global, and we call on the Georgian government to listen to them.”

According to her, US representatives and EU “often raised their concerns directly with the governmentboth publicly and privately”:

“I think we can only conclude that Georgia's current path is incompatible with the democratic values that underlie membership in the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and thus jeopardizes Georgia's path to Euro-Atlantic integration.”
