Images of tourists disembarking and diving into the water to reach the famous Balos beach in Chania have caused a public outcry.

X users did not ignore the video that was circulating on the Internet and tried to express themselves in a humorous manner, with several references to military themes.

Let us recall that according to local media, a pontoon/floating platform was transferred to the area last weekend, which is expected to be available to visitors from Monday. However, for now, without it, tourists are dropped off directly into the water, as is characteristically indicated by the corresponding photos and reviews.

The e-kissamos Facebook page states that the decision to install a floating platform before installing the buoys (large ones) and berths on Balos was made a month ago, but has not been implemented. “This is provided for by the decision of the Ministry of Natural Resources, published in the Government Gazette on Tuesday (issue D'381/11.06.2024).
In essence, the Ministry of Environment accepted the proposal of the Municipality of Kissamos that all passengers should disembark on a floating platform.

In particular, the ministry's decree stipulates that “entry, stopping (at anchor) and parking of vessels in the sea area near the beach for tourists (…) are carried out only by mooring to designated floating craft. Until the publication of the management plan and the regulation of accessibility issues, the approach of visitors from floating craft to the beach will be carried out using a floating platform.
