New Cryptocurrency Boost: Kulipa, Mastercard, and Argent Launch Debit Card

Cryptocurrency wallet Argent, in partnership with Mastercard and blockchain startup Kulipa, is releasing a new payment card. This card will allow you to use cryptocurrency for everyday purchases. The card is based on the Starknet blockchain technology, which ensures the security and privacy of transactions.

Kulipa co-founder and CEO, Axel Kateland, said they are proud to launch this card and partner with Mastercard to make crypto payments accessible to everyone.

The Kulipa card automatically converts cryptocurrency (USDC) into traditional money when paying. This means that merchants can accept cryptocurrency without any additional settings. “This ensures that debit payments work seamlessly for any Mastercard user and merchant anywhere in the world,” the press release says.

Mastercard is actively implementing cryptocurrency technologies, collaborating with companies such as 1inch and MetaMask. Argent, which has more than two million users, uses Starknet to scale transactions. Argent CEO Itamar Lesouisse noted that the new card will be secure and have low fees.

Kulipa recently raised $3 million in funding from Fabric Ventures and White Star Capital. The Paris-based company, founded in 2023, aims to make crypto payment cards accessible to everyone.

Kulipa can process transactions across multiple blockchains, including Ethereum and Solana. Despite the rise in popularity of stablecoins, their use in payments has yet to become mainstream. This could change with the launch of the new card. Kulipa is also a member of Mastercard’s Start Path incubator, which helps it develop its innovations.
