At the SCO summit in Kazakhstan, the President of Belarus became ill (video)

During a recent visit to the SCO summit, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko felt unwell.

About it reports The Moscow Times, citing sources. The problems arose about two hours after his arrival in Astana on July 3. And the next day, during his speech, Lukashenko looked pale and spoke uncertainly, Dozhd TV reports.

During this event, Belarus became a member of the SCO. During his speech, Lukashenko said:

“Only in our organization are there two most powerful leaders – China and the Russian Federation. And we all tremble before this dollar.”

He called for taking “certain steps” to become less dependent on the American currency:

“And you will see: those who manipulate the dollar club, having become frightened, will understand that this cannot continue. We see all this, but we do not do it. And people are waiting.”

It is worth noting that this is not the first time the Belarusian president has fallen ill, which has given rise to certain rumors, the channel reports. In 2023, during the Victory Parade in Moscow, he had “difficulty moving.” An electric car brought him to the eternal flame, and the marks on his hand looked like traces from using a catheter. Immediately after the parade, Lukashenko returned to Minsk, but it was not he who gave the ceremonial speech on the occasion of the holiday, but the Minister of Defense of Belarus. Soon, Lukashenko complained of adenovirus and disappeared for five days.

In January of this year, Alexander Lukashenko refused to play hockey, citing the fact that he had injured his knee while chopping wood. In May, journalists noticed that Lukashenko had begun to wear a bomber jacket often. In this jacket, he even saw Vladimir Putin off at the airport, contrary to protocol. The Belarusian president also flew to Astana in the jacket.

As one of the sources told Dozhd, Lukashenko is seriously ill, but it is unknown what it is because this information is kept in the strictest confidence. Belarusian political scientist Valery Karabalevich also says that Lukashenko's health is a state secret:

“But it is clear that he is not very good. Lukashenko's health is a state secret, a secret behind seven seals. Of course, his appearance is not very good. He looks worse than before. This is obvious. He has gained weight. It is quite obvious that he has problems with his legs. He walks with difficulty. During public appearances, you can notice tremors in his face and head.”

According to the new constitution of Belarus, if something happens to Lukashenko, power will pass to the chairwoman of the upper house of parliament Natalia Kachanova, who will hold new presidential elections. By default, the candidates for succession are Lukashenko's children – the eldest son Viktor and the youngest Nikolai. Passing on power by inheritance will not be easy: the youngest son does not want to take the post of president, and the eldest fell into disgrace after he spoke out against the violent suppression of demonstrations against his father in 2020, and now Lukashenko does not see him as an heir, the newspaper notes.

However, political scientist Artem Shrayben believes that the President of Belarus does not intend to leave his post on his own. According to him, Lukashenko plans to take part in the elections that will be held next year.
