Chios: Illegal immigrants fire at coastguard

The foreigners tried to approach the island of Chios to land, but they were spotted and a coast guard boat arrived at the scene.

Shots were fired from the migrant offenders' vessel towards the Coast Guard boat, and the Coast Guard returned fire, firing into the air.

The boat failed to approach land and returned to Turkish sea waters. It was a perfect development. If this had not happened, the foreigners would have simply been taken to the camp by LN, applied for asylum, and then been sent to Attica on a liner for permanent settlement.

The fact that they returned to Turkey on their own can only be interpreted as a positive thing. Of course, it is not a fact that they will not try to do it again, next time as “refugees”, when the ship, as usual, breaks down near some island, and then is picked up by the coast guard.

Coast Guard Statement:

“Early this morning, the patrol boat Λ.Σ.-ΕΛ.ΑΚΤ. received information that a high-speed vessel with foreigners on board was located east of the island of Panagia and was heading towards Chios. The patrol boat Λ.Σ.-ΕΛ.ΑΚΤ., having noticed the speedboat, gave warning signals, to which the latter did not respond, making dangerous maneuvers.

A chase ensued, during which the boat's pilot fired shots towards the patrol boat. The patrol boat crew fired two (2) warning shots in the safe area and a second patrol boat was sent to the scene to provide assistance. As a result of the pursuit, the ship with foreigners on board was driven towards the Turkish coast.”

According to initial information, a boat with 15 people on board – illegal aliens along with a trader – tried to approach the island to disembark. A coast guard boat arrived at the scene. Shots were fired from the illegals' speedboat towards the coast guard boat. The coast guard returned fire into the air, causing the boat with the illegals to return to Turkish waters.
