The court has closed the long-term case of Julian Assange


WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was completely freed in a US courtroom on Wednesday, June 16. The judge said Assange could walk away a free man.

At the same time, Assange pleaded guilty to violating the Espionage Act. He was charged with crimes related to the largest case of disclosure of classified information in American history, writes Reuters agency.

Let us remember that since 2019, Assange has been in the British Belmarsh prison, where he was placed after being expelled from the territory of the Ecuadorian Embassy in London. For more than five years, Washington has been seeking London to extradite the WikiLeaks founder to the United States.

According to media reports, he agreed to an agreement with the US Attorney's Office, in which he partially admits guilt in conspiracy to obtain and disclose national defense information. Washington previously accused Assange of 18 counts, including violating the espionage law and conspiracy to hack a government computer. He was facing 175 years in prison.
