According to the latest information from the international research company IWSR (International Wine&Spirits Record), one of the main trends in the wine industry until 2028 is the growth in consumption of rose wines, the popularity of which is growing around the world.

Greece seems to be keeping up. At the DrinkPink exhibition of rosé wines held at the Stavros Niarchos Cultural Center, visitors had a great opportunity to get acquainted with the majority of rosé produced in Greece.

There were wines from different regions, different styles, varieties and every possible shade of rosé, ranging from the color of the thigh of a frightened nymph to the rich crimson of the old style or “Tavel”.

It must be said that wineries have made a big leap in the development of the “rosé” sector in recent years. Some of them now produce up to 2-3 different types of rose: dry, semi-sweet, and sparkling, in general, for every taste. During the hot Greek summer, you want a wine that is refreshing but also goes well with any food. In this sense, rosé is the most versatile wine.

In general, Greek rose wines can be divided into 2 large groups. Light, fruity, produced mainly by blending local Greek varieties Moschofilero, Muscat Spina, Assyrtiko or international Sauvignon Blanc with local red varieties. These wines go well with light vegetable salads (such as watermelon and feta), fresh, salty cheeses and olive appetizers. Good in all cases when you don’t want to eat anything heavy, but just enjoy the warmth and beauty of a Greek summer evening.

Firmer and sometimes tannic, these are the more serious variants from the red varieties of Agiorgitiko, Xinomavro, Limnion, Mandilaria and international Syrah. They perfectly support the taste of a hamburger, grilled veal chop and other meat dishes. In general, in all cases when you want something richer.

So if you are still in doubt, Greek roses are absolutely worth taking a closer look at.
